12 deliver
•• Deliver take (letters, parcels, goods, etc.) to houses, to the person(s) to whom they are addressed, to the buyers (A.S. Hornby).
Time: Do those murders [of two Royal Ulster Constabulary Policemen] suggest that Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams can no longer deliver? That is the question. I don’t think anyone yet knows whether he can deliver. If one of them is elected, your relations with them will be okay. They are well-meaning people but, as we say here, they don’t deliver.
[There are] doubts that the Russian government could deliver on its tough austerity package (Financial Times).
•• Теперь попробуем перевести еще одно предложение (из журнала Time): By coming to China in defiance of critics back home... Clinton had delivered big-time to his hosts. So what did Jiang bring to the party?

13 be on smb.'s back
(австрал., жарг. get on smb.'s back); см. тж. get off smb.'s backThose damned merchants were always on his back, controlling, inhibiting... (P. Abrahams, ‘A Wreath for Udomo’, part II) — Эти чертовы коммерсанты только и думают, к чему бы придраться: то одно нельзя, то другое...
Wives frequently get on a man's back. (J. O'Grady, ‘Aussie English’) —
The importance that this Southern Negro sees in the elections in the United States is not who is elected President; all he wants to know is who's going to be Sheriff. That's the person who's going to be on his back. I'm not talking about Negroes in the universities, I'm talking of the ordinary Negro whose life is just one risk after another.
Well, we're the backbone of the country, but you see, Bob, there's too many people on our backs. And it's about time they was [= were] slung off. (A. Sillitoe, ‘The Ragman's Daughter’, ‘The Other John Peel’) — Видишь ли, Боб, рабочие - главная опора страны, но слишком многие сидят на их шее и погоняют.
